The La Caixa Foundation is accepting applications for its International Cooperation Program to build a more just and supportive society that gives peoples more opportunities to reduce poverty and inequalities.
The purpose of this call is to fight poverty and inequalities, focusing action mainly in those most vulnerable people and families, with the aim of contributing to improve their living conditions and facilitate integral development and social inclusion processes.
Field of Action
The program focuses on the social and economic problems that hinder sustainable development and equality of local communities and the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda. In particular, the areas of action are:
- Socio-economic development
- In this area they want to promote projects that try to strengthen the economic and productive fabric, under a focus on rights and human development, in the poorest and most vulnerable communities. All of it, through the creation or strengthening of businesses and the promotion of income generation initiatives and of employment opportunities.
- Priority lines
- Support for local development initiatives
- Promotion of productive capacities for job creation and entrepreneurship among the vulnerable communities
- Promotion of the social economy
- Improved health
- In this area they want to promote projects that promote the universal right to health. Despite the scientific and technological advances that have made it possible to continue improving people’s health, there are still important deficiencies that increase inequalities that widen the health gap between countries and between people.
- Priority lines
- Basic health services
- Primary care and access to reproductive and maternal and child health services
- Fight against pneumonia, malaria, COVID-19, waterborne diseases and other communicable diseases
- Water and sanitation: support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving management water, basic sanitation and waste management
- Training of health personnel
- Promotion of education and training
- In this area they want to promote projects that promote for girls, boys, adolescents and young people the opportunity to enjoy their right to education, regardless of their ability different or any other condition of yours or your families.
- Priority lines
- Quality education for primary and secondary
- Promotion of technical and professional skills for young people and people with diversity functional, to access employment, decent work and entrepreneurship
- Scholarships and supports (at all levels of training) to help people improve their educational level and / or training
- Non-formal education and literacy
- Cross-cutting approaches for the three areas
- Participation and empowerment of the people and communities involved, especially the sectors most vulnerable
- Adaptation to the conditions of the communities with which they will work, according to the needs of each community
- Promotion of human rights and local capacities
- Gender approach
- Children’s rights
- Highest possible efficiency, without conditioning effectiveness
- Sustainability in all its aspects
- Promotion of innovation and introduction of new technologies
- Attention to groups in conditions of vulnerability or at risk of exclusion
- Enhancement of volunteering as a tool for solidarity and cooperation
Funding Information
- The requested projects must have duration of 12 months and may be presented as projects:
- Individual: the amount requested may not exceed € 40,000.
- Partnerships between two or more Spanish entities: the amount requested cannot be higherto € 60,000
- The amount requested may not exceed 80% of the total cost of the project. In the event that the project is selected, the entity undertakes to contribute at least 20% of the total cost of the project according to the budget presented, regardless of the amount of aid granted.
Eligible Countries
The projects to be developed may be implemented in countries with low and medium human development index with major pockets of poverty in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-profit entities and also economic entities may present themselves to this call. Social (such as insertion companies, special work centers, cooperatives, etc.) in whose statutes explicitly state among its aims the promotion of international development cooperation.
- The requirements for entities, both managers and partnerships, are:
- Be accredited in the new application of calls for proposals.foundationlacaixa.org and designate to a person responsible for the project.
- Be legally constituted and registered in the corresponding registry, domiciled in Spanish territory,and have the institutional purpose of carrying out activities related to international cooperation for development.
- Be a non-profit entity or entity of the social economy.
- Have a total annual budget for 2020 of less than 2 million euros.
- Have a documented experience of at least 3 years in international cooperation actions since its constitution.
- Not being or not belonging to a public administration or multilateral organization.
- Academic or research entities may not present themselves as managing entities of the project in this call, but yes as collaborating entities in a partnership project.
- Have a local partner in the country where the project will be carried out.
- The requirements for local partners are:
- Be headquartered in the country of the project.
- Not for profit.
- Be legally registered.
- Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in development cooperation projects
- In the case of delegations, they may present themselves independently as long as they prove their autonomy. Formal, functional and organic. To do this, they must:
- Be recognized by the parent entity and have a minimum operating age as 3-year delegation.
- Have autonomous operation with respect to the parent entity, with its own structure, its own NIF and body self-government.
- Have its own budget differentiated from the parent entity.
