The Leeds Community Foundation is inviting proposals for the Jimbo’s Fund to support local projects across Leeds, continuing Jimi’s legacy of generosity.
Priorities
Priority will be given to projects benefiting:
- Children and young people,
- People with profound and multiple learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities,
- Older people, and
- People in need who are actively trying to help themselves in areas of significant disadvantage.
Funding Information
- Jimbo’s Fund will make grants of £1,000 to £20,000 to support organisations working for the benefit of disadvantaged people in Leeds.
Activities
The type of activity that can be funded is quite broad and includes:
- Project costs;
- Staff costs to enable you to employ someone;
- Training for volunteers or staff;
- Capital costs, including the purchase of equipment, refurbishment and building work, and purchase of buildings;
- Contribution to core costs as long as this is related to the delivery of activities or services you are requesting funding for.
The Fund does not Support
Please note that the fund is significantly over-subscribed for each panel, so please review the exclusions below before you start the application process. Grants will not be awarded to or for:
- For-profit organisations, statutory organisations (e.g. schools and hospitals) or overseas organisations.
- Items that would or should normally be funded from statutory sources e.g. local or central government (including schools, academies, leisure centres, social services etc.)
- Retrospective funding (activity and costs that have already taken place).
- Grant-making to other organisations and/or individuals.
- Activity targeted at a particular group (ethnic, gender, religious etc.) without a good justification for this.
- Activity that promotes a particular political or religious point of view.
- General appeals and contributions to large scale projects.
- Projects primarily for the benefit of animals.
- Applications from individuals.
- Applications from national charities (unless the local branch can demonstrate it operates independently and has a separate management committee and meets all other criteria).
- Applications from organisations with substantial free reserves.
- Applications from organisations with access to other significant funding sources, including those with substantial fundraising teams.
- Applications from organisations that are in poor financial health or those that have had a previous grant from us which has not been managed satisfactorily.
- Applications which cannot demonstrate a clear need or demand for the work.
- Applications which offer poor value for money.
Eligibility Criteria
Grants are open to volunteer-led organisations, including community groups, charities, social enterprises or other charitable organisations from the third sector, that:
- Have a constitution or other relevant governance document;
- Have a management committee/board of directors/trustees of at least three unrelated people;
- Have a bank account under the name of the group with at least two unrelated signatories;
- Are based in and supporting people living in Leeds;
- Have been established for at least 2 years and have a track record in the local area.
