The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is accepting applications for the Legal Assistance Enhancement Program (LAEP) to strengthen and enhance the effectiveness of legal assistance provided to older adults.
Cooperative agreements under this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO), the Legal Assistance Enhancement Program (LAEP), are dedicated to identifying and executing enhancements and innovations that improve the quality, effectiveness, accessibility, and availability of legal assistance offered to older adults. Enhancements and innovations may include, but are not limited to, developing and implementing: new programs to expand access to legal assistance, methods to increase the delivery of legal assistance, and technologies to improve the efficiency of providing legal assistance.
Projects under the LAEP NOFO should be consistent with the fundamental principles of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), particularly as they apply to addressing inequities and increasing access to legal assistance in underserved communities. Enhancements made through this funding opportunity will support quantifiable and sustainable improvements to the delivery of a full range of legal assistance to older adults, from legal advice to full representation.
Objectives
Through this funding opportunity, ACL aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of existing legal services programs for older adults by supporting projects proposing to address the following objectives:
- Expand access to legal assistance for older adults;
- Improve the delivery of legal assistance services to older adults;
- Increase legal service providers’ substantive expertise and skills across the spectrum of legal issues experienced by older adults; and
- Increase collaboration between legal service providers and the aging network.
Funding Information
- Estimated Total Funding: $1,500,000
- Expected Number of Awards: 8
- Award Ceiling: $250,000 Per Budget Period
- Award Floor: $150,000 Per Budget Period
- Length of Project Period: 36-month project period with three 12-month budget periods
Eligibility Criteria
- Domestic public or private non-profit entities including state and local governments, Indian tribal governments and organizations (American Indian/Alaskan Native/Native American), faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, hospitals, and institutions of higher education.
- Foreign entities are not eligible to compete for, or receive, awards made under this announcement.
