The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking proposals for Low Value Grants.
Purpose: To coordinate, facilitate and deliver capacity-building trainings for Local Farmers/Market Vendors in the Agriculture Sector on Organic Farming Practices and Certification, Value Adding as well as to facilitate Grant Disbursement for Local Farmers/Market Vendors.
Objectives
The Markets for Change Joint Project focuses on four main project objectives:
- Inclusive, effective, and representative marketplace groups are created and grow, further enabled, and recognized.
- The socioeconomic security of women market vendors is improved.
- Local governments, market management and other decisionmakers are gender-responsive, effective, and accountable to women market vendors; and
- Physical infrastructure and operating systems are improved to make markets more gender-responsive, safer, more accessible, and resilient to disaster risks and climate change. Results and lessons from the implementation of Phase I in Fiji, Solomons and Vanuatu helped to shape Phase II in those countries and Phase I in Samoa.
Outputs
The call for low value grant proposals responds to two key Outputs under the M4C Project for UNDP.
- Increased access to financial services including access to credit, micro insurance, and livelihood protection of market vendors. The successful organization will provide capacity building trainings, facilitate, coordinate, and monitor the disbursement of grants for local farmers (of up to $30,000USD maximum) who should be predominantly women (at least 80%). The organization should already have an existing micro-financing scheme for this activity.
- Interventions to increase productivity and incomes for local market vendors, one of the key activities is partnerships developed with the department of agriculture, relevant local and regional research, and development institutions e.g., SPC, CDI, PARDI, MDF etc. to undertake value adding and supply chain analysis and deliver training. The successful organization is to provide capacity building trainings and deliver trainings to local market vendors on organic farming and certification, business development trainings (i.e., Product Development, Quality Control, Pricing, Market Analysis, Budgeting, Business Planning etc.) inclusive of local market vendors and their families.
- The Low Value Grants are not able to fund provision for direct services or operating /running costs unrelated to a proposed activity.
Funding Information
Amount: Expressions of interest is minimum and maximum of $50,000USD to be spent within a three-month period.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible Organizations
- Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) certified to deliver and provide trainings in Organic Farming Certification and Value-Adding, with existing partnerships with relevant government ministries, international/regional organizations, local communities and farmers essential. Experience and expertise to facilitate grant disbursement required.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
- The applicant is a registered Samoa CSO or non- government organization in operation for at least 5 years in Samoa
- CSO is based in Samoa (International NGOs and CSOs not eligible)
- The applicant is not on the consolidated UN Security Council Sanctions list
- The applicant is not being investigated for fraud, corruption, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, or other wrongdoing.
- Certified training provider for Organic Farming.
- Existing networks with local farmers/market vendors in Upolu and Savaii.
- Existing partnerships with regional and international development institutions such as SPC, CDI, PARDI, MDF, etc.
