The Mohn Westlake Arts Engagement Fund is a partnership between Leeds Community Foundation and The Mohn Westlake Foundation, which aims to nurture opportunities for young people to experience, engage with, create and enjoy art.
Funding Information
Grant Size: £2,500 to £10,000.
What can’t be Funded?
- For-profit organisations, statutory organisations/activity (E.G. schools and hospitals) or overseas organisations
- Organisations that have an income over £500,000 in the most recent financial year
- Unincorporated organisations that have an income of more than £10,000, or if securing the grant would take them this threshold for current financial year
- Activity and costs that have already taken place
- Activity targeted at a particular group (ethnic, gender, religious etc.) without a good justification for this
- Activity that promotes a particular political or religious point of view
- Activity primarily for the benefit of animals
- Capital appeals for building projects
- Grant-making to other organisations and/or individuals
- Individuals
- Expeditions or overseas travel
Activity
- Examples of activity that can be funded
- Participatory arts activities, workshops, projects and events with young people
- Activities, workshops, projects and events that offer sustained opportunities for young people over the grant period, and consider progression routes for participants once funding ends
- Collaboration between different organisations and art-forms
- Creative activities that support young participants to explore and express aspects of identify and self
- Experiences which enhance the participatory delivery, such as visits to galleries, performances, etc
Eligibility Criteria

For grants of over £5,000
- A not-for-profit incorporated community group from the third sector such as CIO, CIC or a charitable company. You will be registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutual Public Register (FCA).
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure can also apply. However, grants cannot be used to pay staff that are directly employed by the charity.

For grants of £5,000 or less
- A not-for-profit incorporated community group from the third sector such as CIO, CIC or a charitable company. You will be registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutual Public Register (FCA).
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure can also apply. However, grants cannot be used to pay staff that are directly employed by the charity.
- Small unincorporated and unregistered community groups can apply for a maximum of £5,000. Unincorporated, unregistered groups can only apply if your annual income is less than £10,000, and if receiving the grant does not take your annual income this amount.
