The Government of Western Australia has announced its Community Small Grants Fund under the Native Forestry Transition Plan for sustainable projects that aim to create jobs, expand and diversify the local economy, and create liveable communities through services, infrastructure, tourism and events.
Objectives of the Community Small Grants Fund
The CSGF will be delivered through two competitive grant rounds each comprising $2 million. Any funding not allocated in Round 1 will be carried over and allocated to Round 2.
Applications must address one or more of the following objectives:
- Stimulate regional economies – create jobs and increase economic productivity;
- Diversify local economies – expand or diversify new business streams;
- Inclusive and thriving communities – deliver services and/or infrastructure that support liveability in the community to attract and retain workers and their families; or
- Capable communities – develop local skills and capabilities.
Funding Information
The $4 million Community Small Grants Fund (CSGF) comprises contestable grants of up to $100,000 for projects that aim to stimulate regional economies and create liveable communities in the Native Forestry Timber Regions.
Included Activities
- Development of new business streams that diversify or expand existing businesses.
- Development of new technologies aimed at providing a net economic benefit to the Native Forestry Region (e.g. prototype design, construction, and testing).
- Research development (e.g. market research and/or feasibility studies).
- Training courses and/or skills development.
- Business case development.
- Events will be considered where they demonstrate an economic benefit to the Native Forestry Region.
Eligibility Criteria
The CSGF is open to organisations, businesses and community groups with well-planned and developed projects aimed at stimulating the local economy and supporting the community needs of the Native Forestry Timber Regions.
Applicants are required to meet the following criteria to be eligible:
- Have an Australian Company Number (ACN), Australian Business Number (ABN) or be registered as a Not-For-Profit or charitable organisation.
- Be a valid legal entity that can enter into a legally binding funding agreement with the
- Western Australian Government.
- Be a solvent Western Australian-based business or organisation.
- Be an Australian entity and operating within Western Australia.
- Hold insurance, including Public Liability ($10 million per claim), Professional Indemnity ($10 million per claim), insurance in respect of workers’ compensation in accordance with statutory requirements and insurance to cover the full replacement value of any assets purchased with grant monies.
Events (and some other exceptional projects) will require additional insurance, such as higher limits of public liability insurance ($20 million per claim), motor vehicle insurance, compulsory third party insurance, cyber insurance for ticketed events or personal accident insurance where persons are engaged by the contractor on a voluntary basis.
Ineligible Organisations
- State or Federal Government Authorities/Agencies.
- Government Trading Enterprises (GTEs).
- Individuals (without an ABN).
- Any business that successfully receives a Native Forestry Transition Industry and Community Development payment through Program 4: Closure of Impacted Businesses.
