NAWA’s Humanitarian Projects have been at the heart of the organization since it began and is the focus and mission of all who join.
NAWA Mission
- To promote understanding and friendship between women of all nationalities residing in Ghana.
- To support charitable projects in Ghana by providing funds, by encouraging volunteer efforts, and in-kind contributions.
Funding Information
- The project cost should be within the range of GHC5,000 to GHC25,000. The project duration/completion time should be within one year.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS)
- NAWA acknowledges and accepts the United Nations’ SDGs as tools to effect socio-economic change and improve living standards for all- in communities around the world but specifically in Ghana where NAWA members currently live and/or work. Agenda 2030 is a responsibility for each of them regardless of nationality. For the Members and Board of NAWA, they work tirelessly year round to facilitate transformational development projects in various communities in Ghana.
- Sustainable Development Goal 1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere
- NAWA sponsors training and development of skills for women to have reliable sources of income. They have worked with DUNK-Grassroots, bee keeping and others NGOs to empower women with self employment skills. This includes but not limited to sewing, bee keeping, beading and batik making.
- Sustainable Development Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
- As quoted in the Agenda 2030 document, global communities and development partners must work towards “increasing life expectancy, reducing maternal and infant mortality, reducing killer diseases like malaria, Tuberculosis, polio and HIV.” NAWA has collaborated with MIMI Clinic in the Volta region as well as the Police Hospital in Accra on health related projects. NAWA grants have been used to provide privacy curtains, benches in OPDs, and donations of items for newborn babies.
- Sustainable Development Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
- Access to education is not always a guarantee of quality education. They see this in numerous communities in Ghana. OLINGA Foundation for Humanity has received grants from NAWA severally towards its work to offer quality education to primary school children in the Western, Eastern and Volta regions of Ghana. OLINGA Foundation also has a Teacher training program to equip Teachers to deliver lessons in the mother tongue of the respective beneficiary communities. These include: Akuapim Twi, Asante Twi and Ewe. CEWEFIA, an educational program for wards and children of Adults engaged in fishing in the Central region has also been recipient of NAWA grant and stationery supplies.
- Sustainable Development Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
- Path of Joy -an affiliate of the Ananda Marga Movement in Ghana has received a grant for the construction of 2 biofill digesters for 7 toilets at their school in Kasoa. They have supported many schools to install boreholes for improved access to clean water. Environment360, a Ghanaian NGO received a NAWA grant to support its activities with school children to be conscious of re-using and recycling of plastics.

Criteria
- Projects supported by NAWA must primarily benefit women & children.
- NAWA requires that all prospective Grantees must be registered NGOs in Ghana. All certificates from the Registrar General’s Department and the Department of Social Welfare/Development must be available and current at the time of application.
- NAWA has a biannual grants/funding cycle.
- NAWA does not fund recurring costs including but not limited to : rent, utility bills, salaries, honorariums, food, water, clothing, business capital, fuel/transportation/vehicles, sanitary pads, toiletries, medical expenses, consultancy/administrative/capacity building fees, etc.
- All requests for funding are subject to further review and vetting by NAWA’s Humanitarian Projects Committee. Final approval is given by NAWA’s Board of Directors. Each proposal is assessed on a case by case basis. A grants request may be approved, partly-funded or declined. NAWA reserves the right to take a decision on a grants proposal based on their in – house policy, available funds and Bylaws.
- All NGO beneficiaries of a NAWA grant will not be eligible for funding two years from the date of receipt of a current grant.
- All prospective NGO Applicants must have been in existence for at least two years prior to submitting a proposal to NAWA. NGOs are required to demonstrate project(s) undertaken and/or completed since inception.
- NAWA reserves the right to cross check the authenticity of all documents and certificates with the issuing Agency without prior recourse to the Applicant.
