Objectives
- The people
- Engaging with the diverse communities – from Maori, Pacific peoples, and children to rangatahi (youth) and senior people – enables them to provide the services and facilities they need, leading to better wellbeing
- The environment
- Toita te whenua, whatungarongaro te tangata. The land is permanent, while people come and go. Your resilience was tested with destructive weather events in early 2023 and it held. They can help strengthen your ability to preserve the natural environment and sites of significance so that future generations can enjoy them.
- The community
- They are home to the largest population of Pacific people in Auckland. They also have a high proportion of Maori residents and growing ethnic diversity. That diversity means they need dynamic spaces and facilities.
- The places
- They want great, safe neighbourhoods that are well connected with accessible local transport options. They want to create and design attractive spaces that meet your needs and greatly enhance the quality of life for residents.
- The economy
- They want to attract and retain businesses in the town centres and industrial areas. They want to support the big developers, such as Auckland International Airport, and the various business associations to make it easier for employers and employees to benefit from being in Mangere-Otahuhu
Types of projects funded by the grant
Eligibility Criteria
- Higher Priorities for funding
- A higher priority will be given to projects/activities that:
- provide opportunities for youth leadership and participation in employment
- increase and enhance digital skills, access, and abilities for all
- celebrate culture diversity
- promote uptake of walking, cycling and public transport that increase community connectivity, improve health and reduce emissions
- tackle illegal dumping in hot spot areas
- address anti-social behaviour and address local safety issues, supporting neighbourhood safety and crime prevention
- A higher priority will be given to projects/activities that:
- Revitalising Town Centres Priorities
- Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board aims to support revitalising and increasing economic activity in its local town centres. Higher priority will be given to initiatives that are:
- Promoting economic development in the town centres and strengthening their roles as community hubs.
- Building capacity and empowerment in the community.
- Neighbourhood or community events or activations in the town centre.
- Beautification of town centres.
- Free or low-cost business development workshops that benefit local business owners.
- Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board aims to support revitalising and increasing economic activity in its local town centres. Higher priority will be given to initiatives that are:
- Environment Priorities
- Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board aims to support initiatives that preserving, protecting, and promoting natural environment within its local board area. Higher priority will be given to initiatives that are:
- Education and awareness programmes to manage waste safely and reduce the negative impact on the environment
- Waste minimisation, food scraps, community gardens programmes
- Managing pest plants and pest animals to protect biodiversity values
- Local stream restoration and improving the quality of local waterways
- Material costs associated with environmental projects (e.g. plants, fencing material, and equipment)
- Tree planting initiatives
- Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board aims to support initiatives that preserving, protecting, and promoting natural environment within its local board area. Higher priority will be given to initiatives that are:
- Lower Priorities for funding
- A lower priority will be given to applications that are:
- ticketed events
- operational costs, including wages and salaries except where professional services are required beyond the expertise of the applicant, i.e., specialists, facilitator, coaching fees
- support the purchase of, or maintenance associated with, motor vehicles
- benefit a third party (e.g. activity to gain money for an organisation)
- for activities, or from groups based outside the Mangere-Otahuhu Local Board area
- for the same project that has been funded by local board in the same financial year
- no quotes and/or detailed project plan provided
- A lower priority will be given to applications that are:
