Auckland Council has launched Maungakiekie- Tamaki Local Grant that aims to provide contestable and discretionary community grants to local communities.
Priority

Higher Priority
- projects that are inclusive and support under-represented members of the community.
- projects that demonstrate smoke-free and zero waste programmes.
- They will also consider applications for match funding. Match funding is where grants are provided in exchange for the community group’s ‘match’ in volunteer labor, cash, or donated goods and services up to the value of 40%. Applications will be prioritized and assessed under the same priorities as other grants.
- projects/activities which empower the community to enhance their resilience to the impact of climate change.
- targets and supports resident participation.
- applicants who have considered other sources of funding for their project.
- during FY 2021/2022 there will be a particular focus on supporting post-COVID-19 economic development initiatives and support for initiatives that address community resilience and recovery.

- catering
- the purchase of electronic equipment
- ongoing administration costs – for example wages, salaries, or rent
- fundraising activities for a group or organization
- projects or events that are outside the local board
- initiatives that are eligible and can be funded by the central government
- projects that do not demonstrate any benefit to the wider community
- applications for travel and accommodation outside Auckland unless there is strong evidence of benefit to the community.

- The diverse communities are active, involved, and engaged
- Te ao Maori is thriving and visible
- The physical and social infrastructure is future-proofed
- They built, natural and cultural taonga/treasures are protected and celebrated
- The people and businesses prosper economically and socially
Exclusions
The Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board will not fund:
- gifts/prizes.
- groups that have failed to meet accountability obligations from previous council grants except
- in exceptional circumstances.
- Grants to support the purchase of assets and/or equipment with limited future use.
- Applications for liquor licenses.
- Grant recipients are limited to one successful application for the same project/activity or
- event occurring in the same timeframe, once every financial year
