The U.S. Embassy Bamako announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out projects through the African Regional Democracy Fund.
Objectives
- The program aims to support Malian civil society organizations – especially those representing youth, women, internally displaced persons, and other historically underserved groups –build support for policies and approaches that protect human rights, reduce corruption, bolster civic participation, and ensure fundamental freedoms.
- Objective 1: Build and strengthen civil society capacity – particularly those representing underrepresented voices – in Mali’s five northern regions (Kidal, Taoudenni, Gao, Timbuktu, and Menaka) to advocate for democratic principles and practices, including freedom of movement and expression without harassment, during and following Mali’s transition period.
- Objective 2: Bolster transparency and accountability of Mali’s electoral processes and institutional reforms through increased communication and collaboration between civil society stakeholders and transition authorities.
Funding Information
- Length of performance period: 12 to 18 months
- Number of awards anticipated: 4 awards (dependent on amounts)
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $50,000 to a maximum of $250,000.
- Total available funding: $400,000 (no separate award to exceed $250,000)
- Anticipated program start-date: October 2023
- Program Performance Period: October 2023 to September 2024
Participants and Audiences
- All participants must be registered Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) and have been in operation for at least one year to be eligible for funding. Proposals are welcome from community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and non-governmental organizations that work directly with communities
Priority Regions: Kidal, Taoudenni, Gao, Timbouctou, and Menaka
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Registered not-for-profit organizations, including civil society/non-governmental organizations.
- Established, registered grassroots community-based organizations and faithbased organization.
