The Southland District Council is pleased to announce the Northern Southland Development Fund.
The of the fund is to reflect the substantial community support Meridian Energy has received for Project White Hill and to offset any perceived loss of amenity values resulting from the development of the White Hill Wind Farm and to provide for the creation, maintenance and enhancement of facilities, amenities and programmes for the long term betterment and advantage of the people of the Northern Southland community to enable them to provide for their social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing.
Purpose
- The funds are to be applied towards charitable or community purposes relating to:
- community facilities, reserves, playgrounds, utilities and other community amenities
- community programmes, activities, events and recreational opportunities
- community initiatives aimed at developing the social, cultural, environmental, health, safety and general wellbeing of the community
- the development of amenities which may provide a long-term economic benefit for the community.
Funding Information
- There is approx. $10,000 available to distribute per year.
Fund Criteria
- The Northern Southland Development Fund is available for the development of initiatives which benefit the residents of the Northern Southland Development Fund area (represented by the Southland District Council Five Rivers Ward and the Dipton Community Levy area).
- funding is not allocated retrospectively
- priority is given to assisting new ventures and developments, particularly those which provide ongoing benefit
- the level of assistance should reflect the level of contribution from the applicant and the potential benefits
- priority may be given to applications where there are limited alternative means of raising funds.
