The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is pleased to announce the Maine Certified Nutrient Management Planner Program.
Maine NRCS seeks assistance with completing Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMPs) for certain farming operations as arranged with Field Office and State Office NRCS employees. The total number of plans per year would be between 8 and 12.
All steps of conservation planning must be followed to complete plans that meet Maine State nutrient planning guidelines and regulations, as well as NRCS standards and specifications. They must be completed by a person or entity that is a Level 3 Certified Conservation Planner and a Level 2 Certified Nutrient Management Planner in the state of Maine.
The expected work entails meeting with farmers, traversing farms, reviewing relevant farm records, and assessing facilities and natural resources, etc. to plan farm animal and field application of nutrients to meet farmer objectives and natural resource protection objectives.
The particular CNMPs to be serviced by this agreement are typically high priority/time sensitive jobs for smaller farming operations that have pressing resource concerns that make them difficult to process through typical funding/application and ranking cycles. The work area is primarily in the southern half of Maine.
Funding Information
- The Federal funding agency expects to award approximately $90,000 through this opportunity.
- Projects may be between three and five years in duration. Applicants should plan their projects based on an estimated project start date of September 1, 2022.
