The FireSmart Communities grant is offering limited funding to support municipalities with FireSmart Community initiatives through a one-time transfer payment grant.
Funding will help municipalities:
- complete hazard forest mapping for wildland fire hazards
- develop a Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan (CWPP), including:
- Wildland Fire Hazard Risk Assessment
- Wildland Fire Mitigation Strategies
Eligibility Criteria
- Your municipality must be located within the Fire Region of Ontario.
- Municipalities are selected based on the following:
- amount of area estimated to have a high to extreme wildland fire risk from the MNRF Hazard Forest Maps
- average number of annual wildland fire occurrences
- a project plan that is submitted through the application process that includes:
- demonstrated need for financial assistance to complete the project
- level of financial commitment indicated by community to wildland urban interface program initiatives
- community support of wildland urban interface and FireSmart Community Programs
- commitment to the implementation of mitigation strategies once identified
- Municipalities that have been chosen to receive the grant will receive support documentation by email from ministry staff.
