The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) is seeking applications for projects that are aligned with the More People More Active Outdoors Framework and maximise the benefits of participating in outdoor active recreation activities.
The Outdoor Active Recreation Participation Program provides financial support to organisations to deliver accessible outdoor active recreation opportunities for all Western Australians to increase participation, develop life skills and support the transition along the participation spectrum.
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) identifies promotion of adventure and outdoor recreation as a challenge which must be addressed to achieve the key outcomes of increased participation, improved performance, greater well-being and enhanced social capital and organisational capability.

Outcome and Objectives
- The outcome of the Outdoor Active Recreation Participation Program is that:
- the benefits of outdoor active recreation for participants and service providers are maximised through the provision of accessible, inclusive and/or diverse outdoor recreation experiences.
- The objectives of the Outdoor Active Recreation Participation Program are to:
- increase participation opportunities for all Western Australians to actively engage in outdoor active recreation
- provide opportunities for people to develop resilience, leadership, problem solving skills and build lifelong involvement and healthy habits through participation in outdoor active recreation
- provide opportunities to support the progression of participants from the ‘Aware’ stage to the ‘Independent’ stage of the ‘Participation spectrum’ for outdoor active recreation More People More Active Outdoors Framework).
Funding Information
- Organisations can apply for between $5000 and $50,000 to deliver a project.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organisations are eligible to apply:
- DLGSC recognised state sporting associations (SSAs)
- DLGSC recognised state active recreation organisations (SAROs)
- local government authorities (LGAs)
- local sport and active recreation clubs and associations
- community organisations.
- To be eligible for funding, organisations must:
- be incorporated under the Associations Incorporations Act 2015 (WA) or a company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) or an indigenous organisation under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth) or be registered as a Local Government Entity in Western Australia
- possess an Australian Business Number (ABN)
- maintain appropriate and sufficient insurance cover for the duration of the project. A certificate of currency of insurance for the coming year should be provided upon application. Please note, for Public Liability Insurance, a minimum value of $10 million per claim or occurrence giving rise to a claim is required.
- In addition, the following will apply:
- Organisations with outstanding acquittals for any DLGSC grant may have payments withheld until outstanding acquittal documentation is satisfactorily completed.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Ineligible organisations
- State and Commonwealth government agencies
- unincorporated not-for-profit organisations
- commercial or for-profit organisations
- educational institutions/agencies including schools, universities, and TAFE colleges.
