The Leeds Community Foundation is inviting applications for the Pears Youth Fund that aims to support youth organisations with one-off, flexible grants of £10,000.
Pears Youth Fund is a partnership between Leeds Community Foundation and Pears Foundation.
Funding Information
- Grant Size: £10,000.
Location: Bradford and Leeds.
Examples of activity that can be funded
- This programme offers fixed grants of £10,000 which can be used flexibly over 1, 2 or 3 years
- It can be used towards organisational core costs, such as salaries, rent, insurance, etc
- It can be used towards project costs – direct costs associated with youth activities
- It can be used for a combination of project and core costs.
Eligibility Criteria
- Not-for-profit incorporated Community Organisations from the third sector such as CIO, CIC or a charitable company. You will be registered with the Charity Commission, Companies House or Mutual Public Register (FCA).
- Charities that are registered with the Charity Commission but are not an incorporated structure. These organisations cannot use grant funds towards PAYE staff costs, but funds can be used towards freelance staff costs.
- Small unincorporated and unregistered Community Organisations are not eligible for funding from this programme.
- For-profit organisations, statutory organisations or activity (e.g. schools and hospitals) and overseas organisations cannot be funded.
- All organisations, regardless of size and structure, must have:
- At least three Trustees/Directors/Committee Members (whichever is applicable, depending on your organisation’s legal structure) who are independent and unrelated. For registered charitable companies (limited companies by guarantee without share capital, CICs and similar) they require a minimum of three unrelated directors, and none should be registered as Persons with Significant Control
- A governing document g. constitution or memorandum and articles of association that shows how your group is managed and includes a dissolution clause/asset lock
- A bank or building society account in the name of your organisation with a minimum of two unrelated authorised signatories on the mandate and transactions requiring authorisation by at least two of those authorised signatories
- Accounts or a record of income and expenditure for your organisation (if you are a new organisation, you will need to provide a bank statement and a budget)
- You will need to supply your safeguarding policy for children and young people with your application. If your organisation also works with young adults with additional needs or vulnerabilities, you may also need to supply a copy of your safeguarding adults policy
Key information
- Applicant organisations must be youth-focused. This means young people are core to your work overall, and this is reflected in your company or charity objects.
- Organisations must have a minimum income of £30,000 and a maximum income of £500,000 in the most recent financial year
- The majority of people you work with will be aged between 5 and 20 (or up to 25 with additional needs)
- Only one application per organisation can be considered, but organisations can be named partners in other applications
- Successful applicants will not be eligible to apply again for the next round in 2024
What can’t be funded?
- Community Organisations where youth-work is part of a wider remit, and not the organisation’s primary focus
- Activity/costs that have already taken place
- Current Pears Youth Fund grant-holders, unless you will have reported on this before the awards are made in August
- Statutory organisations such as schools and colleges cannot apply for or receive payment from any grants
- Organisations based outside Bradford or Leeds district areas
- Activity targeted at a particular group (ethnic, gender, religious etc.) without a good justification for this
- Activity that promotes a particular political or religious point of view
- Capital appeals for building projects
- Grant-making to other organisations / individuals
- Applications from individuals, expeditions or overseas travel.
