Applications are now open for the Peter Kiewit Foundation’s Grant Program.
They pursue their mission through four impact areas in which we invest in proven and promising programs, systemic solutions, capital projects, general operations, planning and capacity building, and policy development:
- Youth Pathways to Success– Increase the number of youth who progress in their education and secure meaningful employment.
- Economic Growth and Opportunity- Bolster a vital, diverse and growing economy that advances individual and community prosperity.
- Thriving Places- Support local efforts to build thriving communities.
- Emergent Issues and Opportunities- Support responses to address emerging issues or opportunities that have a large scale, community-wide impact.
- All Peter Kiewit Foundation grants are awarded on a matching funds basis with the following maximum levels of foundation participation:
- 501(c)3 organizations may apply for no more than 50% of the total project cost.
- Units of government and tax-supported entities (along with their affiliated foundations) may apply for no more than 25% of the total project cost.
Funding Criteria
- All grants are approved by the foundation’s Board of Trustees.
- When making funding decisions, the Board takes into account the potential for meaningful impact, the significance of the issue being addressed, alignment with their impact area goals and strategies, the nature of the project or program, and the feasibility and sustainability of the effort.
- The Board also considers the strength of the applicant’s governance, leadership, track record, capacity, and financial health.
Geographic Consideration
- The foundation supports efforts primarily in the Omaha metro area and across the state of Nebraska.
- They also make grants in that portion of Western Iowa within 100 miles of Omaha, as well as other geographies of interest to Mr. Kiewit.
Eligibility Criteria
- Your organization must have a valid 501(c)3 status or be a unit of government.
- They do not provide funding to individuals, for-profit businesses, other private foundations, individual K-12 schools, or churches.
- They primarily support efforts in the Omaha metro area, across Nebraska, and in that portion of Western Iowa within 100 miles of Omaha.
Ineligible Applicants
- They invest in proven and promising programs, systemic solutions, general operations, capital projects, planning and capacity building, and policy development.
- They do not fund debt retirement, operational deficits, endowments, general fund drives/annual appeals, event sponsorships, or routine public works projects.
