Applications are open for “Canada – Brazil Collaborative Industrial Research & Development Program 2017” with an aim to foster and support collaborative industrial research and development (R&D) projects with high potential for commercialization.
This bilateral program is managed in Canada by Global Affairs Canada and delivered in partnership with the National Research Council of Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) and in Brazil by Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos (FINEP).
Sector of focus:
- Diagnostic products for human health applications
- Including reagents, standards, calibrators, materials, supplies and instruments
- Products must contribute to making a qualitative and/or quantitative analysis from a sample of the human body in order to provide clinical information and are not intended to perform an anatomic, physical or therapeutic function.
Funding Information
- Canada
- Canadian companies are eligible for up to $600,000.
- Canadian industry may be reimbursed up to 50% of the total eligible project costs through non-repayable contributions provided by the Canadian International Innovation Program (CIIP).
- Brazil
- The total funding available for this call is up to R$ 2,000,000 (two million Reais) from FINEP in the form of grants.

Eligibility Criteria
- For Canada
- Small and medium-sized incorporated and for-profit companies (SMEs) registered in Canada with 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees.
- Companies must be ready to collaborate with Brazilian partners on an industrial R&D project.
- Preference will be given to companies that intend to grow and generate profits through the development and commercialization of innovative, technology-driven, new or improved products, services, or processes.
- For Brazil
- Brazilian Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institutions working in association with Brazilian Business Society
- A Brazilian Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institution is considered an entity or body of the direct or indirect public administration or a non-profit organization legally constituted under Brazilian law, with headquarters and forum in the country, stating in its institutional mission or in its social or statutory purpose, the activities of basic or applied research of scientific or technological nature or the development of new products, services or processes.
- A Brazilian Business Society is considered a company incorporated under Brazilian law, which has its headquarters and administration in the country, focused on the production or circulation of goods and/or services, for profit, whose corporate acts are duly filed in the competent public registry.
