The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking applications to build strong narrative and advocacy on the need to protect and fulfill the right to a clean and healthy environment to tackle environmental crime in North Macedonia through whole of society and transformative approach that enables for strong civic engagement and access to justice.
The Project Advancing Environmental Justice in North Macedonia is provided by the UNDP Global Programme on Strengthening the Rule of Law, Human Rights, Justice and Security for Sustainable Peace and Development.
Specifically, the project aims to enhance the capacity of national institutions, including the legal system, to establish people-centered and efficient systems that advance environmental rights and deliver environmental justice. It also aims to increase public participation, access to information, access to justice, and legal empowerment in environmental matters, particularly for women and vulnerable groups. By building the capacity of key stakeholders, advocating for a people-centered approach to environmental justice, and increasing public awareness of environmental justice issues, the project expects to foster greater understanding of environmental justice issues and promote actions that promote environmental protection and justice.

By funding community engagement initiatives, capacity-building programs, legal aid services, and advocacy efforts, CSOs can empower communities, especially women and vulnerable groups, to actively participate in environmental governance. The re-granting mechanism can also support the dissemination of accessible information, documentation of legal violations, and public debates to raise awareness regarding environmental justice.
