Deadline: 31-Dec-21
The Community Foundation of Lorain County has created a Racial Equity Fund in an effort to build and support a Lorain County Coalition around issues of Racial Equity.
From the Community Foundation’s earliest days, the work has been guided by the wisdom of local community members. This guidance has been through the engagement of the donors, the Board of Directors, Advisory Boards of the African American Community Fund (created 1989), and the Hispanic Fund (1986).
In 2017, the Board renewed the commitment to racial equity by creating the Community Engagement Committee to focus the investment in diversity, inclusion, and equity. The Board has also supported the Neighbor Up Network, an initiative beginning in the city of Lorain to bring together residents in a weekly series of conversations about structural inequality, asset-based community development, and community network building.
The Board and staff are also participating in Racial Equity Institute trainings a to better understand racism in its institutional and structural forms, and modern-day racial inequity.
