The ScottishPower Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Marine Biodiversity Fund, it will finance one multi-year project that contributes to the global objectives of protecting the seas and enhancing marine biodiversity, leaving a positive legacy for future generations.
Proposed projects – which must take place in the UK and its territorial waters (within 12 nautical miles) – should:
- Contribute to the protection and enhancement of the marine/coastal environment, preventing negative impacts and/or enabling the repair and renewal or the marine/coastal environment, including the safeguarding of marine species, and…
- Share project knowledge and raise awareness of threats to the marine/coastal environment by engaging with the local community and wider society.
Funding Information
- The successful project will be funded for a period of up to three years at a rate of £200K per annum.
Ineligible Funding
They provide funding that is restricted to the delivery of specific projects, and not for general unrestricted running costs. There are certain types of activity that they are unable to fund.
Your application must not request funding for any of the following:
- Unrestricted costs
- Funding that will be passed on to individuals or other organisations
- Short term interventions including conferences, galas, holidays and expeditions
- Sponsorship or funding towards an appeal
- Projects that takes place outside the United Kingdom and its territorial waters (within 12 nautical miles)
- Medical care or medical research
- The promotion of religious or political beliefs
- Projects which are primarily based around sports activities
Criteria
In addition to addressing the focus of the fund as stated in points 1 and 2 above, all of the following statements must apply to your organisation:
- You have a demonstrable track record of delivering projects in the marine conservation environment
- You have an active board of at least three unrelated trustees
- You have been registered with one of the UK Charity Regulators for at least three full years
- You have at least three full years of published accounts that show as received on the relevant charity regulator website
- Your income in the last set of published accounts was greater than £800K
- The bank account into which the funding is to be made is not based in a restricted country (i.e. tax haven, high corruption risk or sanctioned country)
- Projects delivered by multiple partners will be eligible to apply – provided partners are also based in the UK.
Partnerships
- They consider a partner to be an organisation involved in planning, execution and monitoring of the proposed project.
- For projects delivered in partnership, they may request supporting documents from all partners should you be shortlisted.
- All partner organisations must be based in the UK
- The lead organisation, considered to be the organisation submitting the request for funding, must be a charity registered with one of the UK Charity Regulators
- For partnerships with registered companies, there must demonstrable evidence of in-kind or financial contributions from the partner company
- Requests for funding are limited to one per partnership.
Ineligible Applicants
They will not accept an application from you if your organisation, any key partner organisation or related director/trustee/managers has ever been:
- Sanctioned or sentenced for fraud, bribery, corruption or other illegal activity
- Disqualified from Public office or as a Company Director
- Disqualified from contracting with the Public sector in the last 5 years or
- Is currently under investigation for any of the above.
What supporting Documentation is required?
- Your Articles of Association
- Your most recent published annual accounts covering a 3-year operating period, that show as received on the relevant Charity Regulator website. Your income in the last set of published accounts should be greater than £800,000 per annum
- Your written policy on Safeguarding (if your organisation works with children or vulnerable adults). Please note that they are examining your policy in the capacity as a funder only and not in any advisory capacity. Their review of your policy should not be relied on as an endorsement of it.
- A letter from your CEO or the Chair of your Board of Trustees confirming that your Safeguarding policy has been reviewed by your Board of Trustees within the last two years
- Evidence of any permits or licences (if required for your project)
- Your written policy on Health and Safety (please note that they are examining your policy in the capacity as a funder only and not in any advisory capacity. Their review of your policy should not be relied on as an endorsement of it)
- A letter from your CEO or the Chair of your Board of Trustees confirming that your Health and Safety policy has been reviewed by your Board of Trustees within the last two years.
