The NACOSA’s Small Grant Scheme for the Sex Work Programme (SW SGS) seeks to fund 1 organisation to render a specific set of activities related to the sex work programme in the Alfred Nzo District (Eastern Cape) to support the achievement of the Global Fund Sex Work programme objectives.
This request for applications is specific to the following services:
- Community dialogues with community stakeholders to raise awareness about sex worker rights and access to services.
- Support the Sex Work Programme Sub-Recipient organisation with linking sex workers to the organisation and clients to health care services.
The Small Grant Scheme will fund a Community-Based Organisation (CBOs) as a Service Providers (SPs) to render two main interventions supporting the Sex Work programme.
- Community dialogues: In collaboration with the existing SR of the Sex Work Programme in Alfred Nzo, the selected SP will in partnership with the SR, identify community stakeholders to participate in community dialogues that promote an understanding of sex work, as well as respect for sex workers human rights in the community.
- Linkage to Care The Sex Work Programme is highly dependent on successful referrals to biomedical services. In partnership and agreement with the SR, the SPs will be expected to provide support to the SR in linking sex workers to health care services. This can include linking of clients and partners of sex workers to local public health facilities. SPs will employ a selected number of Linkage Officers filled by a current or former sex worker who will assist the existing SR with the following activities at community level:
- Linking sex workers for ART and PrEP.
- Linking sex workers for other biomedical services as required.
- Should the SR require, tracing sex workers who did not take up the referrals, as part of the ongoing follow-up support.
- Liaising with SR HTS & Linkage Officers around issues arising out of linkages and referrals.
- Linkage of clients and partners of sex workers to local public health facilities.
Duration: The programme will be implemented for 6 months from 1st October 2021 – 31 March 2022.
Eligibility Criteria
Civil Society organisations complying with the criteria can apply.
- Organisation must have a level 1 or 2 Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) status.
- Organisation must be a registered NPO
- Organisation must have a valid tax clearance certificate
- Organisation must have been in operation for at least two years to be eligible for funding and have an unqualified audit report.
- Organisations must be operational in the Alfred Nzo District of the Eastern Cape
- Organisation must not currently be funded in the current Global Fund grant in any capacity as a principal, sub or sub-sub recipient:
- Applicants must ideally currently serve key and/or vulnerable populations and employ staff with capacity to:
- conduct community liaison and awareness raising work on services for sex workers
- perform linkage and follow-up work with clinically referred sex workers
- An M&E Manager in place with sufficient time to ensure quality data management on the programme
- A Programme Manager in place to manage, guide and monitor implementation performance.
