The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Cape Town (PAS Cape Town) has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications to support program management, staffing and operations for the American Spaces program in the Cape provinces.

The American Spaces standards further mandate that they maintain collections of books, magazines, databases, computer workstations, and an area for programs. All materials at the American Spaces —to include internet access—must be free and open to the public.
ObjectivesPAS Cape Town’s American Spaces program aims to provide resources and programming that promotes the following range of objectives. All programs must feature American content.
- Economic development and trade, including entrepreneurship and job creation, skills building and job readiness, innovation, creative thinking, especially in the creative and technology sectors;
- Education, including studying in the U.S., English language learning and university partnerships;
- American culture and society, including the arts and sports;
- Civil society, democracy and justice, including engagement with the faith sector, free and fair media, transparency and accountability in governance, elections, and human rights;
- Safety and security, including prevention of gender-based violence, and crime;
- Environmental issues including climate change, and sustainable living;
- Global health issues;
- Empowering women;
- Empowering youth including leadership development.
- Award amount: $200,000
- Number of awards anticipated: One award
- Length of performance period: 12 months
- Anticipated program start date: Beginning of September 2021
Eligibility Criteria
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations;
- Public and private educational institutions.
