The Henry Nxumalo Foundation is pleased to launch a call for proposals to Investigate current Violence/Looting for journalists seeking pre-publication support for investigative reporting of public interest.
The Foundation is enable journalists to have the time and resources to do reporting that might not otherwise be done, and to encourage reporting on under-covered areas of South African society.
The Foundation is keen to support journalists (reporters and photographers) who can investigate the causes and origins of this week’s events and related issues. Applications can come from individuals or teams who work in any medium.
The grants are administered by the Henry Nxumalo Trust in partnership with Wits Journalism in memory of the pioneering investigative reporter Henry Nxumalo.
In 15 years of operation, the Fund has given about 80 grants totalling almost R5-million.
Rules
The fund only accepts projects, including book projects, dealing with contemporary issues that affect South Africa.
The fund will not award educational scholarships or grants for professional training. Applications can be from individuals, teams of individuals or a publication/broadcaster.
The Foundation favours work which:
- Is in the public interest
- Aims to reveal information which might otherwise not be known in the public arena
- Is in-depth and investigative in nature
- Uses innovative techniques, approaches or technology
