The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) is calling for proposals under the “Building Resilience through Value-added Projects” Fund.
Area of Interest
Organizations may choose to add value by any of the following means:
- Improving the packaging and display of products and by-products in the organization’s major value chains; for example, including the Fairtrade logo in product packaging and displays (if applicable); adopting sustainable packaging; adjusting the size of product displays.
- Improving the quality of products and by-products in the organization’s major value chains; for example: complying with quality standards; obtaining health and safety documentation to sell products in new national and regional markets.
- Buying equipment and infrastructure to improve the productivity of product and by-product processing; for example, buying equipment to produce, package, clean, or process products.
- They also encourage the use of funds to promote the participation of women and young people in the organization’s governing bodies, and/or that women and young people benefit directly from the funds provided.
Funding Information
- They accept proposals for initiatives with budgets between US $5,000 – US $10,000. Applicants must provide counterpart resources equal to at least 25% of the total amount requested; half of these resources must be in cash and the other half in kind.
- Grant activities may last between 6 and 9 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- They accept proposals for smallholder producer organizations that have been impacted economically by the COVID-19 pandemic and are based in one of these eligible countries:
- The organization must be legally recognized and have been in operation for at least 2 years.
- The applying organizations must comply with the following requirements:
- must be legally recognised small-holder producer organization and have been running for a minimum of two years.
- Organizations must have a bank account for the funds to be paid into.
- It is encouraged that the proposal for the use of funds encourages the participation of women and young people in their governing bodies, and/or that women and young people are target groups.
- Organizations must explain how their economic situation has been affected (in full or in part,) by the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the following aspects:
- Members in vulnerable groups who lack the support needed to face the decline in sales and incomes (according to age and gender,)
- Missing opportunities for the set-up of value-addition projects on products through new processing, packaging, and production initiatives.
- For a demand to exist for the main products and sub-products that are produced by the organization, in the value chains of local and regional markets.
