Sustainability Victoria is now inviting applications for its Sustainable Finance Mechanism – Repayable Grants to provide zero-interest loans for implementation-ready, community clean energy projects.
Aims

The fund aims to achieve the following outcomes:
- Support community groups seeking zero-interest finance for the delivery of community clean energy projects.
- Provide a sustainable financing mechanism in which funds will be returned over time and can be recommitted to other community clean energy projects.
Funding Information
- Grants of at least $30,000 are available for community groups to deliver community clean energy projects.
- The grant is to be repaid to Sustainability Victoria within 5 years.
Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to receive funding, grant applicants must be a:
- Registered Charity or Not-for-Profit
- Community Group or organisation
- distributing or non-distributing co-operative
- Social Enterprise.
- They encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and also co-operatives registered in Victoria.

Applicants must:
- have a current Australian Business Number (ABN) and an appropriate business structure, such as incorporated company, incorporated association, or registered co-operative
- have been operating for a minimum of 2 years by the application date (to be validated by the date that the organisation’s ABN is active from)
- operate in Victoria
- meet or exceed the minimum co-contribution requirements
- be able to demonstrate the community will be involved in initiating, developing, owning, operating and/or sharing in the benefit (economic, environmental, social) from the Community Clean Energy Project
- have a well-developed renewable energy, energy efficiency or energy storage project proposal with due-diligence, grid connection pre-approvals, relevant site and planning approvals, and financial modelling completed or near completion
- demonstrate that they have the capacity to successfully implement the proposed project within a year of receiving the repayable loan
- demonstrate that the nominated community clean energy project will be able to generate financial returns or savings to meet the terms of the repayable grant agreement.
