Deadline: 31-Aug-21
Applications are now open for SYP Trust for Young Children and People.
Priorities
Grant-making programme focuses on supporting organisations that are providing one or more of the following outcomes for children and young people in London:
- Supporting young people to access learning and employment: They know that without the right education and learning opportunities, young people are likely to experience a range of other negative personal outcomes, affecting where and how they live, and the choices they make in the future. They support projects that engage with the most vulnerable young people to prevent them from falling out of education and employment.
- Supporting young people to live a healthy, active life: Being healthy and active makes you feel better, have more energy and fewer health problems, and is essential if you want to live a fulfilling life into old age. They support work that helps young people learn how to be healthy (physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually), provides environments where they are able to be active, and develops the life skills needed to make good choices and grow into healthy, happy adults.
- Supporting young people to be active citizens: Young people are the workforce and leaders of tomorrow. By providing opportunities for young people to volunteer and take on responsibility, they are helping them to develop life skills, including how to support their community and environment. Engaging in activities outside family or school can also help young people’s confidence and social skills, connecting them with positive role models.
- Supporting young people to give a voice to their situation: People who are socially excluded often feel unheard. It’s vital that they hear from young people about their experiences and use this to inform the services developed to support them. From informal peer support groups to more formal youth participation activities, supporting children and young people to tell their own stories is also empowering and can have a positive effect on their personal development.
Project they fund:
- They will not typically provide grants to mainstream schools or colleges but will consider organisations which enhance the formal educational offering of their partner institution/s.
- They will not favour applications from large statutory bodies such as hospitals, but will consider organisations linked to such bodies where the grant size will make a significant difference to how and if the project runs.
- They will consider applications from faith groups as longs as they can demonstrate that they are inclusive of other faiths/no faiths within the project for which they are requesting funds.
- They will support campaigning organisations, those who act on behalf of communities without a voice or who support people to access the services they need, but which are not actively promoting the interests of any particular political party.
- They have a preference for working with local community organisations with an income of up to £1m per year and reserves of between three to six months annual running costs.
- They are also interested in projects which disseminate their results, successes, and challenges, to help inform other organisations and improve the work of the sector.
- Your application should demonstrate to them your understanding of your local community and your beneficiaries, any persons with lived experience in your organisation and their role, and your reputation within your local community.
- They have a particular interest in projects which are new or pilot projects which aim to collect evidence in order to scale up an initiative or service.
Eligibility Criteria
