Applications are now open for the TransCanada (TC) Energy’s Build Strong Program.
Their community giving program, Build Strong, invests in organizations that are integral to local communities, and their business. Whether they are providing grants to organizations, awarding scholarships to students or sponsoring a local event that brings community members together, their goal is to help build strong, vibrant communities through mutually beneficial relationships.

Types of Funding
TC Energy offers the following types of funding:
- Grants: A tax-deductible donation made to an organization that does not require the donor to receive significant goods or services in return.
- Sponsorship: A donation made to an organization that results in the donor receiving some form of commercial benefit. These are typically one-time events, such as galas and conferences, and may not be tax-deductible.
- In-kind: A donation of equipment or resources owned by TC Energy. Some examples include furniture, vehicles and computers.
Eligibility Criteria
They will be accepting applications from Canada and the United States.

Build Strong, which includes the TC Energy Foundation in the United States, invests in non-profits, registered charities, associations, municipalities, Indigenous groups, social enterprises and foundations that:
- equip first responders with important tools and resources;
- improve access to education;
- protect and enhance the environment; and
- alleviate poverty.
Ineligible
- For-profit organizations
- Private schools
- Non-profit organizations not established under 501(3) (c) of the U.S. tax code (U.S. only)
- Organizations that discriminate based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation
- Individuals
- Religious, political or special interest groups
- Advocacy and lobby initiatives – including organizations that lobby against the energy industry
- Recreation or sports organizations and events
- Trips or tours
- Third-party fundraisers
- Advertising, memberships, ticket sales, or lotteries
- Mass-mailed or non-addressed solicitation
- Health-related organizations and fundraising events
- Arts organizations (theatres, museums, orchestras, etc.)
- Organizations seeking to purchase firearms and/or weapons (guns, bullet proof vests, ammunition, etc.)
