The Sunrise Foundation is accepting applications from charities and community organisations whose operations are focused in Tairāwhiti-Gisborne (the area covered by Gisborne District Council).
The Sunrise Foundation (Sunrise) is a registered Charitable Trust, established in 2014. The Foundation provides a trusted, effective and simple way for individuals, families, clubs and organisations to give long-lasting benefits to charitable causes in Tairāwhiti-Gisborne.
Mission
- To connect people who care with causes that matter, to strengthen the local community forever.
Focus Areas
- Distribution of funding will be considered for community groups that deliver in the following areas:
- Arts
- This will include creative art, language arts and literature, music, performing arts and visual arts.
- Education
- Priority will be given to literacy and numeracy skills and high risk and disadvantaged children. This will not include core education through schools, kindergartens and pre-schools.
- Environment
- This will include air, biodiversity (plants animals and birds both native and exotic), land and soil, water (lakes and rivers) and drainage.
- Health
- Priority will be given to support and advocacy groups not fully funded by government and whole-of-community programmes working at grass roots level.
- Heritage
- This will include heritage preservation, discovery and promotion.
- Community
- Priority will be given to organisations who serve community needs affecting families and children with priority given to small organisations with volunteer input.
- Sports
- Priority will be given to encouraging participation by juniors and youth.
- Arts
Funding Information
- Maximum grant of $5,000 per initiative, per year.
Eligibility Criteria
- For your funding application to be eligible for funding from Sunrise’s annual funding round:
- Your grant must be for charitable purposes.
- A fully completed application form with all supporting documentation must be submitted by the due time and date. Late applications will not be considered as demand for funding is so high.
- Sunrise will consider applications for project costs, general operating costs (including salaries/wages, rent and vehicle operating costs) Capital items costing no more than $5000.
- They do not grant to individuals apart from the hearing assistance rounds and this is paid to the company providing the device or service.
- Funding will not be provided retrospectively.
- All organisations which receive funding will be required to attend the Round Table Discussions which will be held in June 2025. Written feedback and photos are also very helpful to them and help them to tell good stories about the work that is going on in the community.
