The U.S. Embassy Georgetown Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) is pleased to invite eligible applicants to submit proposals for the Public Diplomacy Small Grants Program.
Priority Areas
- Priority program areas include:
- Strengthening Governance:
- Encourage transparency and accountability in governance by educating the public on the dangers of corruption and the importance of transparency.
- Foster civic engagement and reforms, and promote democracy, rule of law, and civic education.
- Economic Prosperity:
- Business development, closing skills gaps in local communities, human resources, infrastructure, cybersecurity, resource development, and trade.
- Support programs that contribute to increased economic engagement between the United States and Guyana that prioritizes mutual prosperity.
- Support programs that increase economic and technology partnerships with the United States.
- Support programs that decrease Guyana’s vulnerability to economic coercion and exploitation by malign actors and transnational criminal organizations.
- Advancing Regional Security:
- Support programs that make the region safer by addressing the root causes of illegal migration, trafficking in persons, violent transnational criminal organizations and the illegal trade in weapons, narcotics, and precursor chemicals used to manufacture of illegal synthetic drugs.
- Support programs that provide alternatives to criminal involvement.
- American Innovation and Leadership:
- Support programs that use U.S. leadership to shape global trends in science, innovation, economics, and agriculture.
- Support programs for U.S. leadership in film, music, cuisine, art, and sports.
- Support programs that protect fundamental human rights and freedom of the press in Guyana and the region.
- Strengthening Governance:
Funding Information
- Maximum Award amount: $25,000
- Minimum Award amount: $10,000
- Length of Performance Period: 3 to 12 months
Target Participants/Audiences
- Adults and/or youth in rural regions in Guyana
- Business leaders and entrepreneurs
- Community leaders and influencers
- Academic and/or cultural institutions
Eligibility Criteria
- The Public Diplomacy Section encourages prospective applicants with project management experience from the following organizations to apply:
- Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks, community-based organizations, and civil society/non-governmental organizations
- Individuals
- S. exchange alumni
- Non-profit or governmental educational institutions
- For-profit or commercial entities are not eligible to apply.
Ineligibility Criteria
- The following projects are not eligible for funding:
- Projects relating to partisan political activity
- Projects that support for-profit activities
- Construction projects
- Projects that support specific religious activities
- Fundraising campaigns
- Projects that include lobbying for specific legislation
- Scientific research
- Projects that duplicate existing projects
- The purchase of space or buildings in support of program activities
- Individual travel to conferences
- Scholarships to support educational opportunities or study for individuals
- Projects that support the completion of activities begun with other funds
- Cash prizes for competitions
- Projects that have no clear benefit to the U.S.-Guyana bilateral relationship
