The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon announces an open competition for applications to carry out a program to enhance the inclusion and integration of children with special needs in school life in Cameroon.
This project will instill the desire to promote inclusive education in educators. Proposals must demonstrate knowledge of the situation of children with disabilities in Cameroon and propose a strategy to increase awareness and promote change among principals, school administrators, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders in Cameroon to improve the development of inclusive education. As a result of the project, school principals and directors should be able to better understand the importance and benefit to enroll children with disabilities.
Program Objectives
- Sensitize school principals and directors on the need and benefit to enroll children with disabilities
- Build the capacities of teachers to facilitate the inclusion of children with disabilities in their classes
- Organize inclusive activities for teachers, parents, and students on diversity and inclusion through children’s work exhibitions, concerts, dances and poems
- Organize peer learning activities to share good practices on support for students with special needs
- Establish “Inclusive Support Teams” in schools to deal with various issues related to inclusiveness
- Disseminate the method and winning strategy used to improve inclusive education in schools
- Carry out surveys to measure progress
Funding Information
- Number of awards anticipated: 1 award
- Award amounts: $15,000 to $20,000
- Total available funding: $20,000
- Program Performance Period: Proposed programs should be completed in 12 months or less.
Audience
- The main target audience for this project is high school personnel including directors, principals, and teachers. The applicant should endeavor to recruit both schools with and without experience in inclusive education. Participants should be drawn from at least 3 targeted cities in Cameroon. Workshops should include a manageable number of participants to ensure quality, interactive learning and retention of content.
- Proposals must include an element of American expertise, American resources on the topic at hand, or American cultural or societal experience relevant to the topic. This may be accomplished by incorporating U.S.-origin materials, theories, or other resources, or the involvement of American expert(s), organization(s), or institution(s) – or Cameroonian alumni of U.S. government-sponsored exchange programs – that will promote increased understanding of U.S. values, culture, policy, and/or perspectives.
Eligibility Criteria
PAS encourages applications from the United States and Cameroon:
- Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks, community associations, and civil society/non-governmental organizations with programming experience
- Individuals
- Non-profit media organizations
- Professional trade organizations
- Non-profit or governmental educational institutions
