The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon has announced an open competition for organizations to submit applications to implement a week-long Sports Envoy program featuring two American athletes, such as the Harlem Globe Trotters, on the theme “Promoting Excellence and Resilience through Sports.”
- Youth Clinics for young athletes aged 10-16, in the cities of Yaounde and Bertoua. Each clinic will bring together 50 youth, with an equal number of boys and girls. In addition to sports drills, the clinics will enhance participants awareness on the importance of teamwork, hard-work, and respect for diversity.
- A seminar for coaches and sports educators to share best practices in sports education;
- An exhibition game in Yaounde, at Palais des Sports or any other similar venue, to showcase the unique skills of the Sports Envoys and engage the audience on sports as a means to promote excellence, respect for diversity, and resilience;
- An exhibition game for an underprivileged group in the East region of Cameroon;
- Media appearances to showcase the extraordinary skills of the Sports Envoys to a broad audience of Cameroonians.
- Each exhibition game should include side events such as musical performances, parades, etc.
- Accommodation for the Sports Envoys in high standard hotels
- Venue rental
- Honorarium for guest artists and other performers
- Supplies necessary for all programs
- Refreshment for participants in the clinics
- Design and production of communication tools (flyers, posters, backdrop, banners, roll up, etc)
- All necessary program logistics (sound, security, communication, etc.)
- Total available funding: $20,000
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $16,000 to a maximum of $20,000
- Length of performance period: 6 to 9 months
- 100 youth aged 10 – 16, with an even number of boys and girls
- 15 – 20 sports educators
- 2,000 to 3,000 members of the general public for the exhibition game
- 200 – 300 members of the refugee community in the East region.
- Registered not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks, community associations, and civil society/non-governmental organizations with programming experience
