The Department of State Embassy of the United States in Islamabad is seeking applications for the Curbing Anti-Women Propaganda program, to empower male journalists and social media content creators to combat anti-women misinformation and online harassment campaigns by promoting pro-woman narratives.
Project Goal
- Male journalists and content creators understand women’s rights, increase the quantity and quality of pro-woman reporting, and develop gender sensitive media content for public awareness and societal change.
Project Objectives
- 100 male journalists and 50 social media influencers/content creators increase their capacity to identify and counter anti-women misinformation and disinformation campaigns.
- Norms and ideas about gender and masculinity are shifted among 100 male journalists and 50 social media influencers/content creators to challenge the patriarchal beliefs, practices, institutions, and structures that drive inequality between men and women.
- From among the larger group, select 25 male journalists and 10 social media influencers/content creators and enhance their capacity to create powerful news stories and social media content to counter negative narratives about Pakistani women, including through trainings and mentorship.
- Support select group of 25 male journalists and 10 social media influencers/content creators in creating content and media campaigns aimed at men and boys to improve their behavior and attitude towards women. Incorporate U.S. best practices by recruiting U.S. and Pakistani experts (including journalists) skilled in gender equality training and prowomen content development as trainers and mentors.
- Highlight U.S. best practices, policies and values related to gender equality, particularly in media.
Project Details
- Train 100 male print and radio journalists and 50 male social media influencers/content creators to identify and counter anti-women misinformation and disinformation campaigns;
- Create news content and short digital films to create a pro-woman narrative and counter victim blaming; and
- Challenge underlying sociocultural barriers and norms by designing and disseminating social media content aimed at men and boys.
