The U.S. Embassy in Ljubljana, Slovenia announces Cultural Grants Program for Slovenian and U.S. cultural institutions and civil society organizations and individuals.
The Embassy continues to offer grants for well-designed and managed projects that encourage and promote cultural and artistic cooperation, collaboration and exchange between the United States and Slovenia.
The focus of successful projects should be the presentation and promotion of American values, culture, and/or history through art, music, literature, dance, and/or other cultural mediums, to Slovenian audiences.
Program Themes
- For this grant period, consideration will be given to project proposals focusing on the promotion of American values and culture, and the presentation of American history, society, art, or other culture.
- They are particularly interested in supporting projects that demonstrate the mutually-beneficial, productive, and successful history and/or future of cultural cooperation between Slovenia and the United States that is indicative of the strong transatlantic relationship between the two nations and their people.
Funding Information
- Typically grant awards range from $3,000 to $5,000and supplement other funding, though some exceptional projects may qualify for up to $10,000.
What kind of projects do you usually NOT fund?
The U.S. Embassy will NOT fund the following types of projects:
- Requests by organizations and individuals who are neither Slovenian nor American;
- Those relating to partisan political activity;
- Humanitarian or charitable activities;
- Conferences and individual trips abroad;
- Trade activities;
- Fund-raising campaigns;
- Commercial projects;
- Scientific research;
- Individuals not affiliated with an organization that can provide long-term sustainability to the project;
- Book translations;
- Projects aiming only at primary institutional development of the organization; or
- Projects that duplicate existing projects.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Applicants: professional artists and professionals in the cultural field who are American or Slovene citizens, from not-for-profit arts or cultural organizations or institutions registered in the United States of America or in Slovenia, or Slovenian educational and research institutions and public entities.
- Cost-Sharing or matching: this is encouraged, but will not be criteria for consideration in the panel review. Applicants should show any cost share in the budget proposal. If a project is done in collaboration with another organization, please provide a letter of support/commitment from the partner institution.
Evaluation Criteria
Projects must also meet the following basic conditions:
- Demonstrated high standards of professional artistic quality;
- Interest abroad from reputable and credible presenters or organizations. All applications must include basic information on these presenters and their relevance to future projects;
- Demonstrated cost-effectiveness in terms of the number of performances, planning, itinerary and over-all budget;
- Realistic revenues generated from fees paid to the artist by the local presenters on top of any box office split or contribution to local expenses; and
- All applications must include a brief history of the artist or company and information on the proposed project including repertoire. This information must be supplied no matter how many other applications have been filed previously. Applications not containing this information will be considered incomplete.
- Conformity with General Guidelines and Criteria and basic conditions does not guarantee funding.
