The International Renaissance Foundation has announced a call for proposals for the Critical Thinking Development Competition to promote the development, promotion and use of tools that develop critical thinking skills and counter misinformation.
Initiatives supported by the Foundation and other donors need to be implemented, promoted and further supported. This is especially relevant in the context of hybrid aggression against Ukraine, in particular, in the information space. An additional challenge remains the “infodemia” – the spread of “conspiracy theories” and inaccurate information during the COVID-19 pandemic. Responding to these challenges requires constant search and improvement of developed tools, their scaling to reach target audiences.
The purpose of the competition: promote the development, promotion and application of tools that develop critical thinking skills and counter misinformation.
Thematic Priorities
Thematic priorities of the competition:
- Priority 1. Development, practical application and scaling of tools that form in certain target audiences skills of critical thinking, counteraction to information manipulation, develop media literacy;
- Priority 2. Dissemination of scientifically sound, reliable information about the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences; strengthening the skills of evaluating information in the media to recognize manipulations related to the pandemic.
- The total budget of the competition is UAH 5,000,000.
- The maximum grant amount is UAH 500,000 .
- The average grant size is 350-400 thousand hryvnias.
- Announcement of the results of the competition – no later than June 30, 2021.
- The maximum project implementation period is 8 months.
- The start date of projects is not earlier than August 1, 2021.
Activities
Project activities may include (the list is not exhaustive):
- Scaling of tools for the development of critical thinking and media literacy developed and adapted for the relevant audiences;
- Non-formal education initiatives, in particular, are aimed at students and adolescents with the involvement of adolescents in content development;
- Initiatives in cooperation with bloggers (in particular – video bloggers), popular for the target audience;
- Production of informational and educational, scientifically based content related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Contest participants: public organizations, unions, associations, societies and other associations registered in accordance with Ukrainian legislation as non-profit or charitable organizations.
