The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is inviting applications for “Provision of Services related to Enhancing the Capacities of Media Professionals for Reporting on Gender-Based Violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.”
The purpose of the consultancy is to continue the work of UN Women has done so far on strengthening the capacities of media professionals and create experts in gender sensitive reporting of gender-based violence (GBV) cases by working with media professionals, media outlets and professors of journalism. The activities should focus on developing a higher sensitivity to gender-based violence as a socio-cultural phenomenon, rather than a sensationalistic one-off story.
The overall approach should aim to mainstream the Guidelines on reporting in cases of gender-based violence and utilize the corresponding training methodology developed under the UN Women Ending Violence Against Women program.
Program Tasks
- Capacity building of the media roster
- Work with editors
- Work with academia
- Conduct analysis of media reporting on gender-based violence cases in BiH for six-months period (May-November 2018)
- Data collection
- Analysis of the research findings
- Monitoring and Evaluation
Eligibility Criteria
- Specific knowledge of media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, gender equality and in particular violence against women and domestic violence
- Previous experience in providing trainings to journalists and similar audiences;
- Previous experience working with UN Women and other UN Agencies will be considered as an advantage
- Track record of similar assignments (trainings, workshops for media)
Team Leader:
- Academic background and experience:
- Advanced university degree in journalism, human rights, language and literature or gender studies
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience as an analyst in the indicated field of expertise
- Track record and knowledge in technical expertise of studies related to media and VAW and DV
- Previous similar work experience working for international organizations and/or governmental programs concerning related field
Team members:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a trainer in the indicated fields of expertise;
- Specific experience in carrying out tasks similar to that described in the ToR
- Experience with information analysis and strategy writing
- Knowledge of the context in BiH and experience working in BiH
- At least one team member should demonstrate excellent oral/written communication skills in both English and local languages (B/H/S)
Consultant/team member in charge of conducting the analysis of media reporting on gender-based violence cases in BiH:
- Academic Qualifications and experience:
- University degree in journalism, gender studies, psychology, sociology or any other related social science. MA degree in one of these areas will be considered as an advantage.
- At least 5 years of demonstrated research experience, preferably in the field of media and/or gender issues.
- Experience in applied research with data collection, analytical and presentation skills and demonstrated ability to structure information.
