The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is calling for proposals for Conservation and Preservation of the Páramos in Colombia to improve the availability and quality of water, reduce water-related risks, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and generate benefits additional social, economic, and environmental collateral.
This call is an opportunity to promote initiatives, solutions and new practices communities that contribute to responding to problems in the management of water as a common good and human rights, and that help to articulate multiple processes and actors, generating impacts and collective benefits for water security in the central region serving strategic areas for moorland ecosystems, promoting conservation, restoration and / or protection actions.
Objectives
- Contribute to the implementation of the Water Security Plan (PSH) of the Central Region promoting community initiatives and nature-based solutions that contribute to improving the availability and quality of water, reduce risks related to it, mitigate impacts of water climate change and generate additional social, economic and environmental co-benefits.
- This call will finance community-based initiatives to carry out actions of conservation and / or restoration in páramo and high Andean forest ecosystems, which have been prioritized for having a very low Water Security Index that requires restoration actions and recovery because they are essential areas for life and water in the central region. The initiatives that promotes this call are comprehensive, therefore, they must include ecological actions, restoration, recovery, conservation, among others, and social, that strengthen governance community of water in these spaces, and give sustainability to the actions implemented.
Funding Information
Only one will be financed proposal per organization for an amount of thirty million pesos ($ 30,000,000). For maximum time of six (6) months of execution.
Eligibility Criteria
- Formally constituted community-based social organizations are eligible without the intention of profit, made up of residents of the municipalities, which participate directly in the proposed activities. These organizations must have some experience and interest in environmental initiatives, related to water and / or actions of restoration, protection or conservation in paramos or high Andean ecosystems in the areas object of this call.
- It is desirable that organizations have high participation and leadership of women and / or youth. They can be foundations, corporations, non-profit organizations, organizations communities with an ethnic, peasant, productive or other forms of organization of their own territory, such as community action boards, aqueduct boards or indigenous organizations.
- Public entities are not eligible.
What Proposals can be submitted?
Proposals must respond to one or more of the following lines of work, always from the vision and community interest:
- Initiatives for the protection, restoration and community management of water in areas of páramo and Andean forest: community actions aimed at the protection and ecological restoration of water recharge areas of aqueducts, establishment of agreements or forms of organize at the community level that contribute to the conservation and proper use of water.
- Actions aimed at the reconversion of productive practices and the sustainable use of water within agri-food systems located in high Andean páramo and forest areas.
- Design and implementation of Voluntary Conservation Agreements – HCV that include from biophysical characterization strategies of each productive family agricultural unit until the conclusion of the agreements
