United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Botswana invites Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) and Civil society Organizations (CSOs) to submit technical proposals for implementation of identified Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) interventions projects, for the GEF-financed, GEF-6 Child Project.
This Call for Proposals (CFP) is specifically related to the UNDP and the Government of Botswana’s Kgalagadi and Ghanzi Drylands Ecosystem Project (KGDEP). The call for proposal is for interested Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs)/Civil society Organizations (CSOs) to develop technical proposals for implementation of Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) interventions projects.
The project seeks to remove these barriers using the following strategies:
- Coordinating capacity for combating wildlife crime/trafficking and enforcement of wildlife policies and regulations at district, national and international levels (Component 1);
- Incentives and systems for wildlife protection by communities increase financial returns from natural resources exploitation and reduce human wildlife conflicts, securing livelihoods and biodiversity in the Kalahari landscape (Component 2);
- Integrated landscape planning in the conservation areas and SLM practices in communal lands secure wildlife migratory corridors and increase productivity of rangelands respectively, reducing competition between land-uses and increasing ecosystem integrity of the Kalahari ecosystem (Component 3); and,
- Gender mainstreaming, knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation (Component 4).
Component 1 has national reach, with some sub-regional and district-focused activities.
Components 2 and 3 operate in the expansive domain between the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, including both Wildlife Management Areas and surrounding communal lands. Component 4 is cross-cutting. Between the four Components there are 10 original Outputs.
Activities
The Government of Botswana, through the Ministry of Environment, and Tourism (MET), in partnership with UNDP, is implementing the 7-year KGDEP. This is a child project under the World Bank-led Global Wildlife Program which seeks globally to prevent the extinction of known threatened species through activities that:
- Reduce illegal wildlife trade (IWT) and wildlife crime;
- Protect the habitats of targeted species through improved governance and natural resource management; and,
- Reduce demand for illegally-traded wildlife and wildlife products by changing consumer behavior, supporting activities that promote alternative, nature-based livelihoods and decrease the costs to communities of living with wildlife (by mitigating human-wildlife conflict).
Criteria
Interested CSOs/NGOs should attach the following information for their respective organizations:
- Ownership and governance, registration and regulatory compliance forms (registration certificate; tax registration certificate; good-standing certificate from the tax authority)
- List of relevant project experience.
- List of current project commitments.
- Schedule of human resources to be availed for the project.
- List of equipment and assets to be availed for the project.
- Resumes of key personnel to be employed on the project.
