The Feed the Future Livestock Systems Innovation Lab (LSIL) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications from eligible organizations for its focus grants in order to increase the incomes, nutritional status and health of vulnerable people.
Goals
- Identifies and prioritizes critical ASF production and marketing constraints and opportunities, with particular attention to those that would increase farmer access to inputs for improved health and productivity in specific livestock value chains in an integrated, participatory, and gender informed manner
- Employs multidisciplinary, integrated research for development to provide locationappropriate feed, forage, genetics, and health technologies as well as improved, evidence-based marketing strategies and methods, that will increase production, consumption, and sales of ASF in an environmentally sustainable manner
- Adopts a One-Health approach that minimizes the risk of spreading zoonotic diseases or environmental enteropathy
- Increases adaptation of livestock systems to climate change
- Increases income generation by and nutritional status of the vulnerable, particularly women and children
- Integrates human nutrition and behavior change into ASF production and marketing efforts
- Builds on previous USAID and non-USAID-funded projects and activities and leverages their data and finding
Grant Type
Focus Grants: These are smaller grants for proof of concept studies or research for development bridging studies providing immediate or near-term (within one year) impact. These projects will last for 3 months to 1 year and will have budgets of up to $100,000.

Eligibility Criteria
- This competition is open to any qualified research, educational, governmental, private sector or non-profit institution globally that either has or that collaborates with an organization that has a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) and is registered in the System for Award Management.
- Proposals must identify at least one host-country research institution or university in one or more of the three focal countries for this RFA as a collaborating partner.
- There is no limit for the number of applications from an institution.
