The Natural Resources Conservation Service -New Mexico (NRCS-NM), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), is seeking to partner with and support the efforts of natural resource conservation partners to promote public awareness and implementation of conservation activities by conducting conservation outreach workshops and training that will educate New Mexico’s agricultural community, private landowners, conservation organizations, cooperating agencies, acquits, and land grants.
Proposals must be for projects based only in New Mexico and focus on conservation. Research proposals will not be accepted nor considered for funding under this announcement.
Conservation partners are invited to apply for NRCS assistance for the following opportunities:
- Conservation Outreach Workshops: Promote public awareness of NRCS programs and further the development of relationships with conservation partners, program participants, women agricultural producers, veterans, minority and limited resource landowners, beginning farmers, and historically underserved agricultural producers, producers in urban areas, acequias, and land grants. Direct involvement of conservation partners will enhance effectiveness of NRCS programs and ensure widest dissemination of information regarding current agricultural topics pertinent to underserved segments of the regional agricultural populations.
- Technical Workshops and/or Field Days on Soil Health Strategies, Native Plant Community Adoption, and/or Pollinator Habitat: Provide learning opportunities for producers who are following or considering soil health improvement strategies through cropping and/or incorporation of native plant communities in rangeland systems. Education and demonstration of various practices including, but not limited to, soil health factors in rangeland and cropland, plant establishment, management techniques, details regarding rotational grazing and stockpiling, proper soil health conditions in cropland and rangelands, wildlife habitat benefits from improved soil health, and native plant community adoption will be offered. Applicants for this notice of funding must demonstrate the capability to unite members of the agriculture science and technology communities to share their knowledge of soil health with producers and other interested parties.
- Organic and Specialty Crop Workshops: Provide learning opportunities to educate New Mexico agricultural producers who are following or considering the use of organics or considering transitioning to organic cropping systems for vegetables, fruits, specialty crops, produce, berries, and non-traditional agricultural production efforts in New Mexico.
Funding Information
- Estimated Funding: The total amount of Federal funding the agency expects to award through this opportunity is $100,000.
- Performance Periods: Projects may be one year in duration.
- Number of Awards: The agency expects to make five awards.
- The funding floor for this opportunity will be $10,000 and the funding ceiling is $20,000.
