The Volunteer Alberta is now inviting applications for its Screening Development Grant to support the development of effective screening practices and processes.
Funding Information
- They provide up to $3,000 to support nonprofit organizations facing resource and capacity challenges in the area of volunteer screening.
Grant Funding Criteria
- In addition to organization criteria, organization must meet the following funding requirements:
- Annual operating budget less than $10,000,000
- Have fewer than 10 permanent staff (full or parttime)
- Have more than 10 volunteers a year requiring vulnerable sector checks
- Screening policies and/or procedures are incomplete or have not been updated in the past 2 years
- Volunteer position descriptions are incomplete or have not been updated in the past 2 years
- Has not received a Screening Development Grant in the past 2 years
- Must serve or work with vulnerable populations
- Individuals under 18, over 65, or have a disability (mental or physical) who are in a position of dependence on others or; is otherwise at greater risk than the general population of being harmed by a person in a position of trust or authority towards them.
- Must engage volunteers in positions of trust and/or authority over vulnerable populations
Eligibility Criteria
- Your organization must:
- be a nonprofit organization currently operating in Alberta, with a sole mandate to provide programs and services to Albertans
- be incorporated, established, and/or registered in Alberta under the laws of Alberta or Canada, including one of the following Acts
- Agricultural Societies Act
- Income Tax Act (charity)/Canada Nonprofit Corporations Act
- Cemeteries Act or Cemetery Companies Act
- Regional Health Authorities Act (Foundations)
- Libraries Act
- Part 9 of the Companies Act (nonprofit)
- Societies Act
- Special Act of the Parliament of Canada
- Special Act of the Alberta Legislature
- Your organization cannot be:
- operationally funded through Alberta Health Services (e.g. Capital Care, Covenant Health, Care West)
- a university, college, post-secondary program or institution funded through Alberta Advanced Education
- a faith-based institution that only provides philanthropic services to their faith-based community
- directly or indirectly affiliated with a political party
