The Wildlife Ways in partnership with Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership’s (GBSLEP) is seeking applications for its Small Habitats Grants Programme funded through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) administered by Solihull Council.
The Wildlife Ways is a supporting the environment by investing in lots of projects ranging from planting up verges and parks to revitalizing the wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands.
By creating green routes in Solihull the Wildlife Ways will connect parks, urban centers, and employment sites, improving access for everyone.
Funding Information
- Grants are available from £20,000-£200,000 to support smaller projects from organizations in the GBSLEP area including not just Solihull but also Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Cannock, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Redditch, Tamworth, and Wyre Forest with the aim of improving the conservation status of land in the GBSLEP area.
Eligibility Criteria
- The scheme is open to the following:
- Charities
- Statutory organizations
- Not-for-profit organizations
- Community or voluntary organizations
- Parish or Town Councils
- Businesses (if their land is open to the public all year round)
- Schools (if their land is open to the public all year round)
- The eligibility criteria cover any innovative projects which improve land, water, air quality, and the general environment for people and wildlife.
Application Process

- Once you have completed and submitted your application their ecologist and their grants officer will do an initial check of your application to ensure it is complete and eligible. You may be asked some additional questions and to provide additional information and the ecologist may request to visit the site.
- The grant application will then be appraised. Depending on when your application is submitted it might take between 2- 4 months to receive an approval/rejection. Please do not start any work before you receive the award, as payment can only be made for works completed after the date of the funding agreement.
- The decision of the Small Habitats Grants Board is final.
- Upon receiving a funding agreement it will be expected that your organization will deliver the project as approved and grant claims will be submitted in line with the profile and milestones, along with the evidence of defrayed expenditure. Once this has been agreed they will release the grant payment. The Habitats Grants Ecologist will visit the site post-project completion to verify the works have been completed and the hectares claimed are correct.
