The U.S. Embassy Tokyo’s Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Department of State has announced an open competition for proposals to design, manage, and administer innovative and creative projects to empower Japanese youth in participating in global issue dialogues.
The programs shall help Japanese youth deepen their understanding of regional and global issues and prepare them for their active participation in dialogues on regional and global issues in international settings.
The Embassy welcomes proposals that address these complex issues with focus on programs involving participants from multi-countries and/or global and multilateral issues. The proposal should detail the specific global issue(s) being addressed, explain the approaches that are being implemented to solve these issues, and highlight its impact, effectiveness, and future sustainability. The proposal must contain an element that empowers Japanese youth and foster their leadership in a global context.
Priority Areas
The Embassy is particularly interested in supporting the following priority areas:
- Indo-Pacific regional security issues
- Global environmental issues
- U.S.-Japan-Korea trilateral cooperation
- Girls/women’s empowerment and economic growth
- Information security/misinformation and disinformation/cyber security
- Japan’s roles in civic societies and global governance
- Japanese youth empowerment in global and multilateral conferences and summits
Funding Information
- Total available funding: $200,000
- Award amounts: awards may range from a minimum of $40,000 to a maximum of $100,000
- Length of performance period: Up to 18 months
- Number of awards anticipated: 2-4 awards
- Anticipated program start date: No later than May 31, 2023.
Priority Region: Japan, Indo-Pacific, U.S.-Japan-Korea

The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/nongovernmental organizations
- Public and private educational institutions
- Public international organizations and governmental institutions
- Individuals
