The U.S. Embassy in Beirut is pleased to announce the 2023 Study of the United States Institutes for Scholars (SUSI).
SUSI programs are intensive post-graduate level academic programs with a purpose to provide university faculty and other scholars with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of U.S. society, culture, and institutions.
The goal is to strengthen curricula and to enhance the quality of teaching about the United States in academic institutions abroad.

SUSI program themes include:
- American Politics and Political Thought,
- Contemporary American Literature,
- Journalism and Media,
- U.S. Culture, Identity and Society,
- U.S. Economics and Sustainable Development and
- U.S. Foreign Policy.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates should be Lebanese or holders of the Special Travel Document for Palestinian Refugees.
- They should be between the ages of 30-50, university-level faculty or professionals from research focused organizations (non-profits, think tanks, etc.) and holders of at least a graduate (Masters) degree.
- Ideal candidates will have little or no prior experience in the United States and whose home institution is seeking to introduce aspects of U.S. studies into its curricula.
- Candidates should be comfortable with campus life, shared accommodation, and an active program schedule.
- American citizens or green card holders are not eligible to apply.
