Deadline: 14-Oct-2025
The Music Australia Record Label Development Scheme provides support to competitive Australian labels that take risks discovering, developing and promoting Australian talent to local and global markets.
Concerns with Australian artist discoverability, the fragmented media environment, and impacts of changing technologies and AI-generated music, are all significantly impairing the ability of labels to remain financially viable, and subsequently invest in and support Australian talent. This investment will make sure Australian labels can continue to compete effectively, support their artists, and contribute to the vibrant music ecosystem in Australia.
Grants ranging from $15,000 to $125,000 are available to eligible Australian record labels and Australian subsidiaries of multinational record labels that have been operating for at least three years. Successful applicants will receive not only their grant funding but also a mandatory 10% artist creation fee, ensuring artists directly benefit from the scheme.
The scheme is designed to strengthen the role of labels in financing production and recording, helping artists break through industry noise, and driving long-term sustainability in the sector.
To be eligible, applicants must have an ABN, a minimum of three active Australian musical artists on their roster, and at least five new unique releases within the last two years. Labels must derive a majority of their revenue from master recordings and provide A&R and creative development services to their signed artists. The funding can support a range of activities, including professional recording, visual production, marketing campaigns, physical manufacturing, and artist development. Certain expenses such as international costs, existing staff salaries, and pre-2026 activities are excluded.
Applications will be assessed against three main criteria: quality, impact, and viability. This includes evaluating the caliber of artists and staff, the cultural value of projects, anticipated growth and sustainability, forward-looking planning, financial strength, and effective marketing strategies. The scheme also encourages diversity, environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices, and access costs to ensure inclusivity.
Applicants must provide support material such as matched funding evidence, recordings, biographies, and confirmation or support letters. Submissions close on Tuesday 14 October 2025, and labels may submit one application per round.
