The Arts Council has announced the Art 2023 – Participation Award to celebrate the Decade of Centenaries and is a partnership between the Arts Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
The purpose of this award is the creation of an excellent and ambitious programme of public-facing work that encourages inclusivity, diversity, participation, provocation and discourse on identity of place, space and people as the commemoration of the significant centenaries draws to a close.
Objectives
- The objectives of the award are:
- To provide a unique opportunity for artists and communities to engage with, and respond to, the Decade of Centenaries
- To support participatory arts initiatives that are developed and delivered by professional artists in collaboration with communities of interest
- To support proposals that pursue community and socially engaged arts practices
- To create an exciting programme of public-facing new work of ambition, collaboration and impact
- To incentivise experimentation across a range of artistic disciplines
- To provoke an artistic response to the Decade of Centenaries that is relevant and pertinent to themes of place, space and identity in Ireland today.
Priorities
- Priority will be given to proposals that:
- Best deliver across all criteria for artistic merit, objectives and priorities of the award and feasibility
- Demonstrate a clear artistic vision in response to the themes of the Decade of Centenaries
- Best detail how the proposal will achieve public engagement and visibility by identifying and extending the reach and impact of the project with a fresh and dynamic approach to public engagement.

Eligibility Criteria
- The applicant is the person or organisation that will receive any grant offered and who will be required to accept the terms and conditions of that grant.
- Any grant offered will be paid only into a bank account held in the name of the applicant.
- All documentation provided must be in the name of the applicant (individual artist or arts organisation) – e.g. if you apply to the Arts Council for funding under the name Máire de Barra, then all documentation, including bank and tax details, must be in that name. Variations such as Mary Barry or Barry Studios are not acceptable.
- To be eligible to apply, applicants must be resident in Ireland. There are certain exceptions where the Arts Council may deem eligible applications made by those based outside Ireland. However, before admitting as eligible any such application, the applicant would need to explicitly outline within the application how the outcomes of any such proposal would benefit the arts in Ireland, and the Arts Council must be satisfied with same.
