The Asfari Foundation is accepting applications for Civil Society Programme (CSP) to support the development of a resilient, sustainable civil society, with a current focus on Lebanon and Syria.
This programme invest in the organisational development of CSOs to improve the chances for these actors to continue to operate, retain their assets between projects, become professionalised and certified to the point where they can access funds from a diverse spectrum of donors, and engage in a sustainable and impactful way. Their focus is on building the social infrastructure to tackle the chronic issues facing the region and ensuring sustainable impact beyond grant making and project support.
Objectives
- The objectives of the programme are:
- To invest in the organisational development of small to medium-sized, local and regional CSOs in order to increase their resilience and capabilities. This will enable them to ensure their continued operation in lean times, retain their assets, adapt to rapidly changing environments, attract support from diverse donors, and strengthen their impact.
- To support these CSOs to leverage their experience and expertise in order to strengthen their sustainability and impact.

- Organisation must focus on at least one of the following themes:
- Feminism & Gender
- The Development of Independent, High-Quality Media
- Promoting Active Citizenship
- Strengthening Governance
Funding Information
- Funding must be used for Organisational Development only (up to £50K).
Eligible Projects
- By ‘Organisational Development’ (OD) they mean: focusing on core costs, costs associated with capacity building, training for core staff, consultants to support strengthen internal processes and procedures, new systems that supports efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the organisation.
- Examples:
- Consultant costs where these relate to OD.
- Salaries of key staff, rent, and legal fees.
- Training and capacity development of individuals or teams within the organisation.
- Systems’ development (eg: fundraising, monitoring & evaluation and procurement).
- Development of strategy documents, policies and procedures.
- Communication and convening costs.
- Organisational learning and knowledge management.

Eligibility Criteria
- Organisation must be one of:
- Lebanese-led or Syrian-led CSO based in Lebanon and serving the Lebanese, Syrian and/or Palestinian communities in Lebanon
- Syrian-led CSO working on global issues that affect all Syrians
- Syrian-led Civil Society Organisation (CSO) serving Syrians living in Lebanon
Note: Syrian-led organisations can be registered anywhere in the world (except inside Syria), Lebanese-led organisations must be registered in Lebanon
