The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is currently seeking applications for the Media Workshop on Wildlife and Conservation Reporting in East Africa 2022.
Program Details
- Program will be held from March 28 to April 4 in Fort Portal, Uganda.
- They will host this five-day workshop at a venue (TBC) in Fort Portal, mid-western Uganda, which is around 300 kilometers from the capital, Kampala.
- During the workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of conservation efforts in the region and learn how researchers, Indigenous groups, local communities and policymakers are protecting their ecosystems and addressing threats such as hunting, poaching and trafficking.
- Participants will engage in a combination of classroom-style study and field visits to select national parks, forest reserves and other areas to learn more about habitat restoration efforts and conservation solutions. They’ll also meet with experts to discuss the impacts of deforestation, land degradation and the climate crisis.
Eligibility Criteria
- The workshop is open to journalists from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda. Those based in Kampala and the Ugandan countryside are especially encouraged to apply.
- Self-motivated journalists interested in covering human-wildlife conflicts, poaching, trafficking and other wildlife crimes are invited to apply. They are especially eager to hear from journalists reporting on community-based conservation initiatives, grassroots solutions and policy actions presently underway to protect wildlife and manage habitats and natural resources.
- Their welcome applications from journalists from print, television, online and/or radio, with a demonstrated track record of producing incisive, in-depth stories.
Please note:
- Selected participants must commit to attending all five days of the workshop.
- EJN and their partners and donors have the right to edit, publish, broadcast and distribute any stories produced for your media outlet as a result of your participation in the workshop, once they have been published/broadcast in the original media outlet.
