Deadline: 20-Jul-2025
The JX Fund, in partnership with the Center for Sustainable Media and Gazzetta, has launched a new pilot program aimed at supporting exiled and independent media organizations. This initiative offers venture support and potential seed funding to help media outlets grow sustainably and amplify their voices in their countries of origin.
The program targets media organizations rather than individual journalists and is structured around two key learning tracks: business sustainability and audience/product development. Each participating newsroom will nominate one or two team members to engage in the four-month hybrid program.
Participants will receive strategic guidance in leadership, financial planning, audience research, censorship-resistant tools, and product iteration. All webinars are open to the entire cohort, encouraging knowledge sharing across tracks.
The program is designed to help outlets solve a specific challenge or bring an entrepreneurial idea to life. It offers hands-on support through expert-led sessions, personalized newsroom mentorship, peer exchange, and exposure to global media investors. Select projects may also receive seed funding for implementation.
Eligibility is limited to exiled media organizations from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Russia, and Syria that serve significant audiences in those countries. Applicants must have been operating independently for at least 12 months, producing original content for a defined audience.
To participate, organizations must have an annual turnover between €50,000 and €500,000, demonstrate readiness for strategic growth, and commit one or two team members to active involvement. A good command of English is required, as all sessions and materials will be conducted in English.
Applications will be assessed based on strategic vision, readiness to implement, commitment to journalism ethics, and potential for collaboration. The program is ideal for media outlets looking to move beyond survival and toward long-term impact.
