The Long Documentary Production Program supports original and bold films that ignite imagination and tell stories relevant to Dutch audiences. They seek a diverse range of films from both experienced and emerging filmmakers, welcoming all narrative perspectives and genres. The goal is to offer a varied and distinctive film selection for a wide and diverse audience.
The program funds distinctive documentaries that show courage and originality, aiming to provide a balanced mix of films from different categories and segments. Both new and seasoned filmmakers have opportunities to participate.
Funding contributions can reach up to €275,000 for documentary production, including specific funds for audio description and subtitling to ensure accessibility for visually and hearing-impaired viewers. After the contribution is granted, additional earmarked funding may be available for impact and outreach plans (up to €6,000), sales deliveries and international press kits (up to €6,000), and marketing or promotional activities covering up to 75% of extraordinary costs, with a maximum of €20,000.
The scheme is open to independent production companies established for at least two years in the Netherlands, EU, EEA, or Switzerland. These companies must regularly produce and exploit audiovisual works. The producer representing the company must have been primarily responsible for producing at least one feature-length documentary released in the Netherlands and cannot be the documentary’s director.
Applications must include content-related materials such as the documentary script, synopsis, any changes in the scenario, optional mood boards or storyboards, commentaries from key creators, viewing material, and CVs or filmographies of key crew members. Production and business documents like the budget, financing plan, work plan, release vision, and various optional agreements and confirmations must also be provided, alongside a Chamber of Commerce extract.
