DW Akademie is launching a third edition of its “Space for Freedom” program for exiled Afghan media professionals and journalists residing in Pakistan, Tajikistan, India, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Iran.
Participants, with mentoring, will get further qualifications through training and produce their own stories for possible publication by DW Dari and Pashto Service Commitment. Monthly stipend to cover basic living costs.
Initially, in phase 1, participants will get further qualifications through training. In phase 2, this newly acquired knowledge is applied in the production of journalistic stories. Mentoring will be provided to ensure high quality standards.

Commitment
Participants commit to attend all online training sessions and stay in close communication during the mentoring phase. As part of phase 2, participants are mentored to produce a minimum of two journalistic stories for training purposes between September and November 2023. The format can be video, audio or text and photos.

Eligibility Criteria
- Mid-career Afghan journalists:
- with minimum of three years proven work experience with Afghan independent media.
- who are residing in Pakistan, Tajikistan, India, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Iran;
- Applicants must have previously worked in Afghanistan as journalists and recently migrated to above mentioned countries of exile;
- who are native Dari or Pashto speakers, knowledge of both languages desired;
- with availability and commitment from early September to end of November 2023;
- with access to a stable internet connection;
- who are willing to continue working as media professionals.
- Female journalists and journalists from Afghanistan’s minorities are especially encouraged to apply. The selection process aims for a balanced gender proportion.
